Short break

Just taking a short break from posting my trip to Hong Kong. Suddenly I have an assignment to do which is due on New Year's Day.

Anyhow, being the insatiable reader that I am, I subscribed to a lot of feeds from various websites. So the better part of my day is spent clearing my inbox and reading the articles and posts. Some are really interesting, some weird, some informative and mostly, inspirational.

Today I came across one from Open Culture on Morgan Freeman reciting Nelson Mandela's favourite poem, "Invictus". No, I did not watch the similarly-titled movie, where Morgan Freeman played Mandela. This is also my first time hearing/reading that poem, and it is beautiful.

Invitus
BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Also, I am hooked on this exquisite tune by Yiruma, a South Korean composer. I listen to it everyday!
